Breaker! Breaker! Good buddy returning!

HOLD onto those woollen mittens Breakers fans – Cedric Jackson is on his way back to lead New Zealand’s 2014-15 NBL revival.

The signing of Cedric The Entertainer, the import playmaker in consecutive Breakers Championships in 2012-2013, league MVP last year and All Star Five in both his seasons, is expected to be released shortly by the club.

Action Jackson – yeah, I’ve missed him – played in the NBA Summer League last year with Miami Heat in Orlando and Portland Trail Blazers in Las Vegas before signing to play for Union Olimpija in Slovenia.

Jackson was replaced by Kerron Johnson last season as the triple-champion Breakers went through a tough transition season, plummeting to seventh.

New Zealand already has retained or contracted Tom Abercrombie, Mika Vukona, Alex Pledger, Reuben Te Rangi, Corey Webster and Duane Bailey for 2014-15.

Jackson, the first Breaker with a triple-double (28 points, 10 assists, 10 rebounds against Melbourne Tigers) led the NBL in assists (6.4) and steals (2.5) in his debut season, finishing fourth in MVP voting.

That was before his MVP season.

While Jackson will return, no, Dillon Boucher won’t be coming out of retirement or Andrej Lemanis checking in “to get the band back together”.
