Bullets shoot down 36ers

BOOMERS FIBA Asia-Cup-winning centre Matt Hodgson produced a double-double today for the 36ers but his teammate in Lebanon, Daniel Kickert, has led Brisbane to a 101-92 Blitz win.

The pair started for the Aussies in their inaugural and Gold Medal-winning Asia Cup performance but in Traralgon today, the Bullets took their record to 2-0 by going 46-36 across the middle two periods.

Kickert led all scorers with 21 points at 60 per cent, and grabbed six rebounds, Brisbane with six double-digit scorers, playmaker Travis Trice with 12 points and four assists.

Reuben Te Rangi had the "perfect" shooting game with his 13 points on 5-of-5 shooting, including 2-of-2 threes and 1-of-1 frees.

Hodgson paced Adelaide with 17 points and 12 rebounds.

"Hodgy was really really good," Sixers coach Joey Wright said.

"He clogged the middle, blocked shots and changed a lot of others.

"And Teysy (captain Brendan Teys) was excellent and embodied what we're about."

Teys' 15 points came on 6-of-8 shooting but it was his hustle, defence and decision-making which most impressed.

Wright also singled out development player Caleb Davis, a 201cm Perth-born forward who joined the 36ers' squad via Premier League's South Adelaide Panthers after a successful college career at Saginaw Valley State University.

"He only played about seven-eight minutes but he did very well and was one of our better guys," Wright said.

The NBL Blitz being an annual preseason event, Wright chose to rest a few of his key men but was disappointed in their production.

"Some of the guys don't realise yet if you're only going to play 10 minutes today, those are 10 you have to play as hard as you can," he said.

The 36ers play New Zealand Breakers tomorrow to conclude their tournament.
