Daredevil Dyson reverse and it's French toast

A SLICK offensive baseline inbounds pass from Josh Giddey to a cutting Dyson Daniels for a reverse layup with one second left, overnight gave the Boomers an 83-82 win over host nation France in Australia's last formal hit-out before the Paris Olympics, Dante Exum an unfortunate casualty.

Despite landing awkwardly in the Boomers previous win over Puerto Rico in Orleans, Exum was cleared to play and instead severely dislocated a finger, sufficiently significantly to, initially at least, throw his Games campaign into doubt.

That now looks unlikely though of all the players to wear the green 'n' gold of the Boomers, where injury is concerned, Exum has to be the most unlucky.

In another game where Patty Mills donned the Superman cape and Giddey drove the Batmobile, Daniels also left his pre-Games critics shrugging and pulling in their heads.

Daniels compiled 14 points at 67 per cent, 2-of-4 threes, with five assists and five steals, his defensive work opening the door for the Boomers.

France started ominously with Victor Wembanyama throwing down a dunk but triples by Daniels and Giddey led to an early buffer.

Mills also was on fire for 11 early points en route to 24 (10-of-16), the Aussies out 16-9 before Nando De Colo, Nicolas Batum and even Wembanyama hit threes and it was "game on".

Duop Reath was back into the thick of it, Wembanyama extending France's halftime lead to 52-44 before a Daniels steal led to a fast break dunk.

It was a 3-point fest as Batum sandwiched two triples around Giddey's response before Reath struck another to trim the eight-point deficit to 58-63.

He then further cut it to 60-63 before a Jack McVeigh's 3-pointer tied it again at 63-63.

Giddey impressed with his work in the paint, compiling 20 points, six rebounds, eight assists, two steals, two blocks ... but seven turnovers.

Down the stretch, Mills' threeball broke a 78-78 deadlock but it still would require Giddey and Daniels to complete the match-winning play with 1.0 second left on the clock.

AUSTRALIA BOOMERS 83 (Mills 24, Giddey 20, Daniels 14; Giddey 6 rebs; Giddey 8 assts) d FRANCE 82 (Wembanyama 17; Wembanyama 12 rebs; Wembanyama 8 assts).
