Wildcats rolling on the River

DEFENDING NBL champion Perth today saw off Adelaide 81-73 in a preseason hitout at Margaret River Recreation Centre, Jesse Wagstaff value-for-miniutes.

Wagstaff had 13 points at halftime and finished with a game-high 17 in only 12:16 of court-time.

Angus Brandt continued to impress with 15 points, nine boards and five assists, Perth not suiting its imports while new 36ers "big", Ronald Roberts made an early exit with five fouls in 11:53 on the hardwood.

He left with six points, two rebounds and two blocks in that time.

The Sixers' ability to penetrate saw them draw fouls and go to the stripe for 29 free throws, converting 20.

Mitch Creek, like Boomers teammate and fellow FIBA Asia Cup Gold Medallist Brandt, again had numbers across the board with 11 points, six rebounds and four assists.

Daniel Johnson led Adelaide's scoring with 14 points and also dished four assists.

Adelaide started well but Perth finished well, its 20-13 final quarter sealing the result.

Ahead 71-70, baskets by Matt Knight and Brandt punched the Wildcats' lead back out to 75-70 and after Creek pulled back one point from the stripe, Jarrod Kenny hit a super-tough jumpshot to put it out of reach.

Adelaide won the teams' matchup on Friday at Bunbury 99-91.

PERTH WILDCATS 81 (Wagstaff 17, Brandt 15, Kenny 12; Brandt 9 rebs; Kenny, Brandt 5 assts) d ADELAIDE 36ERS 73 (Johnson 14, Drmic 13, Creek 11; Sobey, Creek 6 rebs; Johnson, Creek 4 assts) at Margaret River.

PS

His name is Ronald Roberts. Is this going to happen all season...?
