THE Cairns Taipans shortly will announce import Fuquan Edwin has been released to return to the US for personal reasons, leaving the club in hot pursuit of a late replacement.
The Taipans play their 21st game of the NBl season tomorrow night in their Perth rematch and are hopeful of making an announcement of a replacement for Fuquan within 24 hours.
Edwin, 25 and 198cm, was averaging 8.1 ppg at 40 per cent and 3.4 rebounds, his minutes just under 20 per game.
In and out of Cairns' starting lineup, the club resolutely has stuck by him, as it does with all its import selections.
The last player released in-season by the Taipans was Rashad Tucker a decade ago in 2007, Cairns priding itself on its loyalty to the roster.
Even releasing Edwin has been a tough decision but he has personal issues to resolve in the US which require him to depart home at the weekend.

Mark Worthington (shoulder) is hoping to play in Perth in what could be his last game in his home state.
