Green's major balls up

OH DEAR. What on Earth possessed Draymond Green to do THAT today? Was he channelling his inner Gary Ervin?

What a brain snap by Golden State’s star forward on a day when Oklahoma was putting the Warriors to the sword, en route to a 133-105 rout.

The 133 points tied the Thunder’s record for most points ever scored in a playoff game. And remember, it was against the 73-9 all-time best record Golden State team.

But while a few of us pundits expected an OKC win, then for GSW to tie it up 2-2 before going home for Game 5, that all unravelled when Green kicked the Thunder’s Kiwi centre Steven Adams in the groin.

It meant not only did the Warriors lose but they also may lose Green for Game 4 when the NBA examines footage of what looked a fairly deliberate act.

Adams had to exit the game and Green copped a flagrant foul as Oklahoma simply owned the contest.

“He's a tough kid, (he) has a great pain threshold,” OKC coach Billy Donovan said of Adams.

Post-game, Green – who uncharacteristically struggled at both ends of the floor to finish with six points on 1-for-9 shooting – was in denial about what had occurred.

Asked whether he was concerned about a possible suspension, Green said: “No, I thought it would probably get rescinded.

(Watch the incident here: http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=15669268&sf26746232=1 )

“I followed through on the shot,” he claimed, denying trying to kick someone “in the mid-section”.

“I turned around and he (Adams) was on the floor. Oh boy I’m like: ‘What happened?’ I was standing at the 3-point line, I looked at Bogut, he’s looking at the replay and he was like (rolling his eyes) and when I looked at the replay I was like: ‘uh-oh’ but, like I said, I thought it would get rescinded.”

Cool story Drey.

The Warriors were outscored by 43 points when Green was in the game as Kevin Durant went off for 33 points on 10-of-15 shooting for OKC.

The Thunder shot at 52.3 percent from the field to lead 72-47 at halftime. Their 45 points in the third quarter was the most the franchise ever has scored in any playoff period.

From 40-40, the Thunder outscored GSW 34-9.

On his way to a 30-point, 12-assist, 8-rebound haul, Russell Westbrook became only  the sixth player ever with two postseason games of 25+pts, 10+assists and 5+steals.

Donovan’s college coach and mentor Rick Pitino was at the game and had to be impressed at the manner in which Oklahoma shattered GSW.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr postgame also jumped on the “I expect it to be rescinded” bandwagon for Green’s flagrant – who knows how the NBA will act on this? It IS playoff time, after all – then added he expected a huge turnaround in Game 4.

Kerr cited trailing 1-2 last season against Memphis and Cleveland - with substantial Game 3 losses - from which his team fully recovered in Game 4.

Rarely has a Game 4 been bigger.
