Patty Mills on song to be a Jazzman

AUSTRALIAN Boomers Paris Games captain Patty Mills has landed on his NBA feet, the five-time Olympian signing a new guaranteed one-year deal worth $US3.3million at Utah Jazz, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. A while back the Jazz had both Dante Exum and Joe Ingles on its roster.

Mills, 36, was an unrestricted free agent, having spent the latter half of last season under Eric Spoelstra with the Miami Heat. Earlier he was cut by the Atlanta Hawks.

Mills will reunite with head coach Will Hardy in Utah.

Hardy was an assistant coach under Gregg Popovich at the San Antonio Spurs from 2015-2021 where Patty truly made his NBA mark as a key player in the franchise's 2014 NBA championship.

In Paris, Mills led Australia to a victory over Spain before losses to Canada, Greece and Serbia ended the Boomers' run in the Olympic quarter-finals.

He was Australia's second leading scorer behind Josh Giddey, averaging 16.5 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game. He shot at 40.9 percent from beyond the 3-point line and hit an amazing shot over Nikola Jokic to send the quarter-final into overtime.

"You dream of those moments as a little kid in the backyard underneath the clothesline in Australia - being able to hit a big shot in the Olympic Games," Mills said.

Now there are more big shots to be hit for Utah.
