Brad&Boti: History and misery a mix of the past week

BRAD&BOTI: So much went on this past week in both the NBL and WNBL that it was hard for Brad&Boti podcast colleague Brad Rosen and I to even know where to start. Do we want to talk about new WNBL history? Or do we cover some NBL misery? Guess what? We did both.

Ladies first and we acknowledged that the WNBL's newest franchise Geelong United got off to a shaky start, leaving us wondering when or where their first win in the big-time would be coming from.

No sooner had we voiced our misgivings than Geelong went into its match with defending champion Southside Flyers down import Lynetta Kizer (ill) and forward Daniel Raber, on FIBA duty with Israel.

So yes, when Geelong beat the Flyers, we were pleasantly stunned to acknowledge the historic win, even if another lump was waiting around the corner in Bendigo.

Even in that one, dominated by the exceptional baller and early MVP candidate Sami Whitcomb, Geelong showed great fight, dragging a 30-plus deficit back to 12 before succumbing to the Spirit's greater firepower.

Keely Froling has been outstanding for United but Bendigo is fulfilling preseason predictions as the team to beat ... and Kelsey Griffin hasn't even suited up yet!

Keeping an eye on Townsville and Perth as well before turning our attention to the NBL where Chris Goulding had his best performance in a decade with his 46-point tour de force in Melbourne's come-from-behind win over Perth.

Ah those Wildcats ... just when you think they've turned the corner you realise they're in a maze.

The biggest upset though was defending champion Tasmania smashing in-form New Zealand, Craig Sword having his best offensive output of the season.

Post-game though the comments of JackJumpers coach Scott Roth on his club's social media harassment were disturbing to say the least.

Our WNBL and NBL predictions, a Nagy Nasty and a Rosen Rattler ... it's all here at this link, or you can hit Apple or Spotify if you prefer.

My sincere apologies but I just never tire of this rare pic of former Hawk Tim Coenraad levitating.
