King Aleks-ander at Sydney?

THE inaugural National Pro Combine was great for a number of reasons but twice yesterday - and from reputable sources - Aleks Maric was linked to the Sydney Kings.

(Of course, they may have both just spoken to each other, then told me independently, but I doubt it.)

And bad news for Melbourne United fans but our most successful basketballer on the European circuit, David Andersen, now appears likely to sign in France for 2016-17.

But back to Maric. My information is the big fella is being touted as insurance in case star pivot Julian Khazzouh doesn't make it back from injury in time for the start of the 2016-17 NBL season.

Khazzouh said today his progress from a season-ending quad injury had been steady. He is back running a few times a week and slowly building up over the next month.

Now picture this. Khazzouh AND Maric in a Sydney Kings version of the "twin towers". Remember, there's the slashing Brad Newley to worry about already.

Not to mention Kevin Lisch and Jason Cadee lighting it up.

TWIN TOWERS? Picture Aleks Maric alongside Julian Khazzouh at Sydney. Hmm...

Maric is a Sydneysider and was a part of that famous Australian youth team which won the Gold Medal at the FIBA Under-19 World Championship in 2003, alongside Newley ... and Andrew Bogut.

After an extensive career across Europe, plus Boomers representation at the 2010 FIBA Worlds as well as the London Games, he would be quite the pick up.

The Kings today announced they had signed 200cm Darcy Harding, 22, as a development player. He has been playing SEABL with the Albury-Wodonga Bandits for the past three seasons.

Rio Olympics-bound Andersen, a 213cm a stretch forward/centre, has won titles in the Euroleague, Italy, Russia, Spain, Turkey and France, the latter earlier this month.

It looks as if he will return to the land of the baguette, though not necessarily at ASVEL in Lyon.
