Kings key on DQ and Muo

SYDNEY Kings remain optimistic they can sign Daequon Montreal and Mathiang Muo to play out the rest of the NBL season.

The pair would come in for star import Josh Childress and starting centre Angus Brandt - both injured - and help the Kings remain competitive across their remaining fixtures.

Neither has been given the NBL all-clear to play this round where - surprise, surprise - the Kings play the Wildcats in Perth.

Montreal, or "DQ" as he is best known, has been a SEABL superstar since joining Dandenong Rangers from Boise State University and got his first NBL break this season with Adelaide 36ers.

Unfortunately the talented 202cm shooting forward had not yet fully made the adjustment to playing NBL when Brock Motum became available after being released by Utah Jazz on the eve of the NBA season.

Released by the 36ers, DQ played five games, averaging 9.0 points at 49 per cent, 3.8 rebounds and 0.8 assists, his best return a 16-point haul with six rebounds in Adelaide's road win at Townsville.

At the Blitz, Montreal averaged 15 points at 57 per cent, 4.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists, looking very much like a player who, given time, would make the step up in class.

Muo was released by Perth Wildcats.

"We've had some adversity but we're pretty united as a club, from the investors to the admin," Kings coach Damian Cotter said.

Brandt's temporary replacement, Nick Horvath, played his last game last week when Sydney whipped the Breakers 101-81 in Auckland.

Injured and employed as a teacher in New Zealand, the naturalised Horvath stayed in his adopted homeland but Cotter said he had been a positive influence while with his group.
