Lithuania now the big challenge

YES, that was a lot more like it. The Boomers looked like the team they want to be as they demolished Korea 89-55 in their second World Cup game in Gran Canaria.

They assuredly are still a work-in-progress but there was clear progress from the opening night jitters of the 80-90 loss to Slovenia.

Joe Ingles played a complete game - which is not bad in less than half a game - Aron Baynes stayed a constant and Matthew Dellavedova resembled the player we need him to be.

Really enjoying the work of Ryan Broekhoff and Brock Motum too.

So was it just getting that first game out of the way? Was it considerably more confidence in their ability to whip Korea? Or have the Boomers found their mojo?

It's hard to tell until the game against Lithuania is underway.

That is when we should get some idea whether the return of the swagger was just because the opponent was Korea or whether there is now some genuine belief the team can make some noise.

Of course, losing to Lithuania wouldn't be the worst case scenario either, given the likely crossover options with Group C where the mighty USA lurks.

But what you had to enjoy about Slovenia in Game One was just the fact they believe completely in themselves and perform with an air of expectation they are confident of fulfilling.

The Boomers didn't have that in that game and the contrast was stark.

They were talking the talk but not as confidently walking the walk. And there will never be a medal until they do.

Let's hope Korea was the turning point.

HAVE to admit I am enjoying the foolishness of ABC's Double Dribble.

Yeah, it's not exactly the Shakespeare of comedy but, eh, so what?

Dave Thornton and Ronny Chieng are doing something different and good on them.

I know I have laughed a few times, not necessarily voluntarily either.

It's not for everyone, I know. But for someone like me who doesn't take sport as seriously as those of our extreme life-or-death fans who wanted Andrej Lemanis lynched after Game One and sainted after Game Two, it is close to just the ticket.

I'm buying.

ELSEWHERE on Planet Earth, the WNBA's Western Conference Final is poised at 1-1 after reigning champion Minnesota Lynx pinched Game 2 off the Phoenix Mercury today, 82-77.

Shut down in Mercury's 85-71 Game 1 win at home, Maya Moore cut loose for 32 points, with nine rebounds and two assists to steer the Lynx today.

Game 3 is back in Phoenix on Wednesday, our time.

''I think for 35 minutes we were pretty good today,'' Mercury star DianaTaurasi said.

''We'll just do what we do every single game, same mindset.

"Everyone was fine in the locker room. No one was crying, so I think we'll be ready.''
