Name the venue!

LOOKS like "The Powerhouse" is the winner of my less-than-scientific poll of potential new names for the Scouts SA-SA Church Basketball Association's home of the 36ers and Lightning.

Earlier this week, when it was revealed Scouts and Church Basketball together had purchased the building formerly known as "The Clipsal Powerhouse", "The Distinctive Homes Dome", "The Brett Maher Court" and, most recently, "Adelaide Arena" the question appeared obvious.

What name should be bestowed on the landmark, going forward?

Did it need "Adelaide" in the title? The Staples Center doesn't have LA in the title but is readily identifiable, and the same is true for Madison Square Garden for example.

Anyway, I threw it out to you on this site and on Twitter and got some funny, interesting and silly responses - exactly as you'd expect.

I suggested when it comes to names, you "fire away" and @ashO cracked me up by suggesting "Fire Away". (Maybe that's just one for my warped sense of humor.)

Here's some of the others:

@johnsonfriends - The Apollo

@GrumpFace78 - the dib dib dib, dob dob dob dome

@tee_dee_pee - The Home of Hoops Heaven

@SkipStrudwicke - The Scout Hall

@BenLeahy12 - The Dome

@danmuller1 - Wooden Spoon Stadium

@Kellbpics - Holy House of Hoops

@Trav_Stewart40 - The Notinmyhouse

@Trav_Stewart40 - SA Powerhouse

@brhaydon - Scout Hall, Home of Troop 36

@Daniel_Rouse - SA Powerhouse, Adelaide Powerhouse ... Failed sponsor Powerhouse

@canion - Dib Dib Lob Lob ...or ... The Altar ...or... The Cross Court ...or... Preparation Dome ...or... The Lighthouse

Of my favorite email responses, there were these:

Guy Hill in Sunbury: When it comes to potential new names for the old Powerhouse, I can't go past one: you keep the main court as "Brett Maher Court", but name the venue after one of the single most influential figures of Australian basketball (South or otherwise) - the Ken Cole Colosseum (or if you want, The "Ken Cole-esseum")

Sixers & Lightning fans deserve their weekly trip to "The Ken" - like his admission into the Hall of Fame, do it before it's too late!

Rod Bauer: My brainstorming is pretty average, but I change my underpants less often than the Powerhouse changes its name (I must be old).

How about: Hail Mary Scouts Honour Stadium ... Or ... Uniting Church Scouts Hall ...Or...      District& Metropolitan Amateur Basketball Association, Basketball Association of South Australia, Basketball South Australia, South Australian Church Basketball Association, Scouts Australia (SA Branch) {leave out the money paying sponsors} ...Or... Miller- Angove stadium? I do like that one! As long as people do not think it is about an American beer.

Michael Sweeney: Scouts should be recognised for their input with the 'Dib Dib Dob Dob Dome'

Paul Prior: DUB, DOB, DUNK Arena !!!

A lot of fun responses - and a few others which I couldn't use - but I must admit, as an advocate for a "back-to-the-future" style return to the original name of The Powerhouse, I was quite surprised how much The Apollo grew on me.

Just sayin!

Hopefully we have given the new Arena Management something to ponder!
