Basketball On The Internet.

THERE is no way a basketball purist – or a dinosaur, take your pick – can watch the NBL and not be impressed with the way Scott Roth’s Tasmania JackJumpers go about their business. There were a few very fine performances in Round 2 but our Team of the Week was a truly easy call.

First up, the Jackies dethroned the reigning champion Kings in Hobart 80-72 with another fun-to-watch team effort, paced by Jordon Crawford, Milton Doyle and Jack McVeigh but with marvellous contributions from players such as Anthony Drmic, Sean MacDonald, Clint Steindl, Majok Deng and Jarred Bairstow.

To then go into John Cain Arena to face a fired up Melbourne United, well, to say that was a big ask is understating it. But, having successfully defended the island from those interloping Kings, it was time again to invade the mainland.

Working in their favour was the fact they already had a three-win streak going at the venue. Working against them was that United was well rested and waiting.

They led by 13 too in the fourth quarter, at a time many visiting teams would have hit the fatigue wall and timidly raised the white flag.

Not these Ants.

They just ramped it up again, the panic spreading among United players as the deficit drew closer and closer.

Then Doyle stepped up, used a sweet screen to create distance from Chris Goulding to sink the top-of-the-key 3-pointer that turned what should have been an honourable road loss into a memorable road gloss.

What a win, what a weekend. Tasmania was by far Round 2’s Team of the Week.
