NBL unveils 2018-19 uniforms

HERE they are, the NBL’s new team uniforms for the 2018-19 Hungry Jack’s season, as produced by its own apparel brand First Ever.

That’s “First Ever” not “Worst Ever” for the scallywags out there suggesting there isn’t much new in the designs.

Look a little more closely and the champs, Melbourne United, have had some tinkering, with red gracing the uniforms of runner-up Adelaide 36ers in a nod to that state’s colours.

“The basketball jersey is such an integral part of the game and it has really evolved over the years,” First Ever CEO Justin Kestelman said.

“We want NBL fans to feel the same passion and connection to the jersey as fans do in the NBA and we’ve drawn inspiration from the athletes and the fans with these designs.”

Players representing all eight NBL teams attended today’s uniform launch in Sydney, which also doubled as the launch of the first Official NBL Store.

“The launch of the Official NBL Store presented by First Ever celebrates the intersection of athletic and street style during an exciting time for Australian basketball,” Kestelman said.

Are there any more iconic basketball uniforms than those worn by the Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls or New York Knicks of the NBA?

That's why these designs above have only been subjected to sensitive tinkering, keeping the iconic nature of Perth Wildcats, Sydney Kings and Cairns Taipans brands for example, consistent with past uniform versions.

It's a fine line between going completely bold and and new, while retaining the essence of the past and First Ever appears to have nailed it.
