NBL21 TotW Rd.19: United against COVID

COVID may have struck in Melbourne but United has struck out on the road, comfortably handling playoff wannabes Illawarra and Brisbane to indisputably claim our NBL Team of the Week honours.

Led by captain Chris Goulding, who had a Player of the Week-style run with bags of 25 and 20 against the Hawks and Bullets respectively, United was everything its opponents this year feared it might be, practically unbeatable.

Goulding knocked down 7-of-13 threes against Illawarra and 6-of-11 in Brisbane to be pivotal in both double-digit wins, 13-of-24 from beyond the arc an impressive return.

Jock landale had 21 points, 11 boards, five assists and three blocks in Wollongong, where Jo Lual-Acuil's 10 points came on 5-of-7 shooting.

Lual-Acuil had a further 18 in Brisbane at 70 per cent, while Shea Ili also got among the points and Mitch McCarron continued his steady play across multiple statistical categories.

Mason Peatling and Sam McDaniel continue to make their contributions, Yudai Baba plays both ends of the floor and Scotty Hopson has found his niche. This is currently our Team of the Week but, potentially, they still could be our Team of the Year.

YOU wouldn't think a club which beat defending champion Perth during Round 19 would still be a shoe-in for the Team of the Weak As P--- award but with those Brisbane Bullants, nothing is impossible.

Right on the back of beating the champs, the Bullets had two more home games in which they had a very strong chance to consolidate their Final Four aspirations.

Instead they barely turned up against playoff rival South East Melbourne, trailing by as many as 35 points before being humiliated 95-66. They were pathetic.

Then Matt Hodgson jogging alongside Chris Goulding as United's captain burned past him to throw down a dunk showed exactly where this team is right now. No-where. That 11-point loss flattered this ensemble of effluent. They clearly were the Team of the Weak As P---.
