No Monroe, no

THE WNBL has reversed its decision to allow SEQ to suit its fourth import, Jacinta Monroe, this season, as a late replacement for Ify Ibekwe,

The Stars released Denesha Stallworth earlier this season to bring in Jordan Hooper, then sought leave - initially granted by WNBL GM Paul Maley - to replace Ibekwe with Monroe on compassionate grounds.

Ibekwe's father allegedly was ill, prompting her desire to return to the US. But she now appears to be set to return to the WNBL around January 15-16.

The WNBL has regulations which prevent such lineup changes but Maley, on advice from colleagues at Basketball Australia, used discretionary authority to grant SEQ an exemption.

A united front from the other eight WNBL clubs citing the ruling as illegal - subsequent investigation confirming that to be accurate - has forced the WNBL and BA into a backflip, consistent with the rules as they presently stand.

Monroe, 27 and 196cm, has played 21 WNBA games with Washington and Tulsa.

NO MONROE ... after all
