Sixers finally moving, with FA to show

ADELAIDE's announcement it signed NBL warrior Jason Cadee still had fans scratching their heads wondering what else might be happening? Well, Jacob Wiley and naturalised Alex Starling now appear to be heading for spots on the 36ers' roster and there's half a chance they may need to go back cap-in-hand to Daniel Johnson.

The Sixers' quest to replenish their big-man stocks after waving goodbye to Kai Sotto as well as Johnson hasn't turned up much, although Wiley, who played previously in Adelaide under Joey Wright, is a legit 203cm.

Wiley, 28, was a 36er in the 2018-19 season before exercising a European "out" clause. He subsequently has played for Gran Canaria in Spain, Panathinaikos in Greece, Basket Zaragoza in Spain, for Montenegro's Buducnost and Real Betis in Spain.

More recently he has played in Japan for Shiga Lakestars and in Puerto Rico with Vaqueros de Bayamon where he averaged a team-leading 14.8ppg, 4.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.8 blocks.

Starling, 34 and a naturalised 198cm American forward, originally came to Australia in 2012 to play AFL football with Sydney Swans but returned to his basketball roots and has been a yearly star in South Australia for a decade.

Playing for South Adelaide Panthers, he currently leads the NBL1 Central Conference in scoring and rebounding, with 29.5 and 14.0 respectively.

He is both a multiple Woollacott Medallist as the fairest and most brilliant player in the state, and a multiple championship winner, with stints at Woodville, North Adelaide and Southern.

Robert Franks' Adelaide return appears unlikely, leaving the 36ers to build around Mitch McCarron, Antonius Cleveland, Sunday Dech, Kyrin Galloway, Nick Marshall and Cadee.

Allowing South Australian juniors such as guards Isaac White (Sturt) and Sam McDaniel (Southern) to trade their Tasmania JackJumpers uniforms for spots on Brisbane's roster will sour diehard fans.

But the backcourt already looks full.

The big misstep was losing Lachlan Olbrich to Illawarra Hawks.

The son of Greg Olbrich, who in 1995 tied for the Woollacott Medal with multiple NBL championship winner and past 36ers coach Scott Ninnis, Olbrich is a 208cm forward/centre and would have been the perfect replacement for Johnson.

Olbrich spent the past season playing college basketball at UC Riverside where he averaged 11.4 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.4 assists.

Of course, Angus Brandt, Yanni Wetzell and Matthew Hodgson are all still "out there"...
