THE Perth Lynx deserve a great deal of credit for bursting back into the WNBL Final Four, right at the season's eleventh hour and in so doing, not only ensured 2023-24 would have the same semi finalists as 2022-23, but they would close the regular season as our final Team of the Week.   

If there is any irony there, it is in the fact the Lynx opened AND closed the regular season as our Team of the Week, and also held the mantle in Round 5.

Life was travelling very comfortably then before high-quality import Aari McDonald injured her knee against Canberra in Perth's last home game of 2023.

The Lynx were sitting pretty at 8-3 but stumbled to 9-10, going 1-7 without the livewire MVP candidate. In its first game without McDonald, Perth lost to semi final rival Townsville 64-87.

Returning to action last week, McDonald steered Perth back to 10-10 before anything to do with post-season play rested on beating Bendigo.

Falling behind by as many as 16 points, Perth's revival was paced by McDonald (26 points, 5 threes, four assists, four rebounds, one block), Amy Atwell (23 points at 57 percent, four threes, 6 rebounds, an assist, a steal, a block), Miela Goodchild (14 points), Anneli Maley (11 rebounds) and everyone stepping up considering centre Emily Potter produced a stinker.

To come from behind and to win by 19 - in Bendigo and with both clubs chasing the same post-season berth - was an extraordinary effort and certainly one good enough for Team of the Week honours.
