Warriors block any Cav recovery

AUSSIE Andrew Bogut set an early tone as Golden State today dismantled Cleveland 110-77 to seize a 2-0 lead in the NBA's best-of-seven Finals.

Bogut blocked four shots in the opening 7:15 of the game - as many as the Warriors blocked in all of Game 1 - with one of his rejects leading straight to a Steph Curry 3-pointer.

LeBron James went scoreless in the first period for the first time in his Finals career but the Cavaliers still led at the first break.

The King scored from a couple of Matty Dellavedova assists in the second as Cleveland extended its lead to six before the Warriors responded - and how.

By the time Draymond Green (28 points, 5-of-8 threes, 7 rebounds, 5 assists) hit consecutive 3-pointers, GSW was away.

As Klay Thompson and Andre Iguodala joined in, the lead ballooned to 15 (52-37) before James and Richard Jefferson massaged it back to eight by the main interval.

Curry's fourth foul in the third period was the only concern but the "Brazilian Blur" Leandro Barbosa stepped in again, going 5-of-5 before his first miss, a forgiveable heave to beat the shot-clock.

Golden State was in complete control and Cleveland out of answers, coach Tyronn Lue trying Russian 7-footer Timofey Mozgov for the final period which meant a re-entry for Bogut and his fifth block, matching his playoff career high.

The Warriors now have won seven straight games against the Cavaliers, including playoffs, and the devastating nature of the wins has to weigh heavily.

It marks the longest winning streak for any team against a LeBron James team and some of Golden State's ball movement was fit for a time capsule.

James finished with 19 points, ending his run of 25 straight postseason games scoring 20 or more points, 8 rebounds, 9 assists, 4 steals - and 7 turnovers.

"Draymond does everything for us," Warriors coach Steve Kerr said of his versatile power forward.

"He's always one of our most important players and he had a heck of a game."

"Splash Brothers" Curry and Thompson found their touch for 18 and 17 points respectively, still returns you might consider low for the margin of victory. Curry now has scored 29 and Thompson 26 in the first two games of the Final. Even that has to be scary for Cleveland.

With their 87th win, the Warriors tied the 1995-96 Bulls for most regular season and postseason combined wins in a single NBA season.

And the 33-point rout, coupled with Game 1's 15-point morale-breaker means Golden State has set a new record for the largest winning margin in the first two games of an NBL Final.

Behind their 48-point buffer, you have to go back to 1961 when the Boston Celtics' combined margin for the first two games was 42 over the St Louis Hawks.

That matched the Rochester Royals' 42-point spread over New York Knicks in 1951.

"We did our job. We won our two home games," Kerr said.

"There's obviously a long way to go. We're not celebrating."

Kerr joined his coach at the Chicago Bulls, Phil Jackson, as the only coaches in NBA history to win 30 of their first 40 postseason games.

For the Cavs, Jefferson finished with 12 points, Kyrie Irving 10, and Kevin Love suffered from an accidental smack to the head by Harrison Barnes which later required the NBA's "concussion protocols."

Having seen the play a few times now, can't help feeling if that was Dellavedova taking that hit to the head, he would have finished the game.

"We gotta be better at all facets of the game, both offensively and defensively, both physically and mentally," James said.

Amen.

Or as LA Lakers legend Earvin "Magic" Johnson tweeted: "There comes a point in the NBA Finals when one team knows that the other team is better than they are, the Cavs now know."
