WNBL PotW: Former flame's revenge

THIS round's Basketball on The Internet Player of the Week arguably was our easiest choice of WNBL Season 2019-20 so far, despite several big individual efforts.

Canberra's Kia Nurse for example, topscored two big Caps road wins in Melbourne, while Leilani Mitchell enjoyed a season-high 23 points in a losing Southside effort.

Adelaide dished 29 assists as it whipped Bendigo, with Steph Talbot scoring 20 points with seven assists, four rebounds, two steals and a block, import Brianna Turner also with 20 points, eight boards, three assists, a steal and a block - though she had more like four in that latter category.

Lauren Nicholson's 16 points came on 7-of-8 shooting in 18 minutes, Nicole Seekamp everywhere for 10 points, nine assists, two rebounds, two steals and a block in one of the season's best team efforts.

Kelsey Griffin came out of the Caps' two road wins averaging 16 points and 11 boards in another great round's work. But, like its Grand Final opponent last season, Canberra had several players in the running for this week's award.

Only Perth Lynx's Opals combo guard Katie Ebzery stood out from the pack of powerful performances as she steered her team to a drought-ending 93-74 win over a confident Sydney Uni Flames outfit.

Ebzery not only delivered a season-high 28-point haul at 63 percent, including 3-of-6 threes, but also snuck four offensive rebounds, five assists and two steals. And she did it in 27:50 of court-time.

Yes, that's roughly a point per minute played against her previous club! It was a magnificent leader's performance on a team which was on a four-loss skid, with three morale-busting overtime losses in there too.

It meant Katie easily claimed our top weekly award for WNBL Round 5.
