WNBL TotW8: Flames fine but Caps capitalise

SYDNEY Flames raised their hands for the first time this season as a contender for Team of the Week honours with an impressive road win over Melbourne, backed up by more success against Victorian WNBL teams by bouncing Bendigo. But the Flames weren't the only red hot team in Round 8.

In Perth, the Lynx continued in their role as the league's biggest surprise by packing off Southside Flyers to put themselves in the running for the third time.

Hammered by Sydney, the depleted Boomers went up to Towmnsville and spanked the league leaders by 20 to win themselves a mention.

But that home loss to the Flames put them out of the race.

Ultimately, last week they were unlucky to miss out on Team of the Week honours but after hammering incoming Adelaide 86-73 in Round 8 to make it back-to-back wins - after a winless season had looked a slight possibility - it is the Uni of Canberra Capitals taking our top award.

Onvce again Jade Melboujrne was at the forefront of the success, chalking up a career-high 31 points including 6-of-7 3-pointers, five rebounds, seven assists, three steals and block.

Her haul also included a crazy beat-the-clock long-range one-handed heave that never looked like missing, Melbourne receiving potent support from Alex Sharp with an 18-point, 13-rebound double-double.

This was a Caps win for the ages and one too good to ignore.
