WTF (2) - Flames name Shannon

WOMEN TAKE FRIDAY (2) - THE Sydney Flames finally have resolved a couple of weeks of internal turmoil to reveal rookie Shannon Seebohm as the club’s 2014-15 WNBL coach.

A promising guard from Millicent in south-east South Australia, Seebohm played for Australia at the FIBA World Under-19 Championship in 2007 and played in three NBL games with South Dragons that year.

His playing career cut short in December, 2007 when he suffered a form of heart attack, Seebohm’s tremendous will brought him back to the sport.

Most recently he has been an assistant coach with Sydney Kings’ NBL team.

When the Flames finally found some super-glue remover to unhinge “Coach-for-Life” Karen Dalton from the coaching chair and on to “General Manager Ad Infinitum” the race for her long-occupied chair was down to former assistant Darren Allie, Lightning and one-time 36ers assistant Tracy York and Seebohm.

(The word I heard was Seebohm won the race, then was reluctant to take up the role when informed he had it, believing he lacked the requisite experience. Dalton allegedly then offered to return to her post to mentor Seebohm for a year. With at least four players ready to walk, that idea was kyboshed and Seebohm agreed to accept the position. It’s just what I heard on the grapevine but it might explain why the Flames took this long when Seebohm was first given the gig about a fortnight ago.)

The Flames still are in pursuit of a big to further supplement their lineup.

The teams are shaping up something like this at present:

IN another tidbit, Sapphires assistant coach and former Lightning assistant Simon Pritchard is expected to join Carrie Graf on Canberra's coaching staff, reuniting him with both Abby Bishop and Stephanie Talbot.

Pritchard previously recruited Talbot to play for his reigning State League champion Norwood team in SA.
