B&B: Blowing the whistle on Dream Team

In: NBL, Boomers & Opals, NBA — Friday, 15 Apr, 2022

BILL Mildenhall is one of Australian basketball's greatest referees and arguably the most respected in NBL history. He's done it all when it comes to officiating - including ref the Dream Team in Barcelona 1992 - so Brad Rosen and I were thrilled to get him revisiting Memory Lane for this Brad&Boti podcast.

NBL Rd.20: Derby to rock the round

In: NBL — Thursday, 14 Apr, 2022

WILL 13 prove unlucky for Sydney but lucky for Illawarra? For the second round in a row, it tips off with a derby game which rates as arguably the most important of the week. The Kings have 12 wins on the trot and are looking at #13. The Hawks have flown to six in succession. These are the current form teams.

TOTW Rd19: No stand-outs but consistency pays

In: NBL — Wednesday, 13 Apr, 2022

CONSISTENCY generally pays off so even in some NBL Rounds such as #19 when there was no real stand-out team, the panel here at Basketball On The Internet pontificated for several days - well, hours - before concluding Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Illawarra and Tasmania were in the running for our Team of the Week.

NBL Rd19: Throwdown makes it official

In: NBL — Tuesday, 12 Apr, 2022

IT seems an eternity ago when Round 19 tipped off but it was on opening night with the Throwdown that defending NBL champion Melbourne sent crosstown rival South East Melbourne into post-season mothballs. United's victory brought up the Phoenix's 12th loss and formally ended their playoff hopes.

NBL Rd.19: Rivalries reborn, well, sort of

In: NBL — Thursday, 7 Apr, 2022

THE NBL's "Throwdown" resembles the AFL's "Showdown" and is just one of three rivalries revisited in Round 19, a week of games where the last rites will surely and formally be declared on South East Melbourne's long-shot (no-shot?) playoff aspirations.

TOTW Rd18: Snakes alive! And Phoenix phlummoxed

In: NBL — Tuesday, 5 Apr, 2022

IT was tough to split two teams from NBL Round 18 after regional outfits Illawarra Hawks and Cairns Taipans turned in significant back-to-back victories at home and on the road in the quest for "Team of the Week" honours. Xavier Rathan-Mayes and Keanu Pinder also enjoyed stand-out rounds.

NBL Rd.18: Phoenix phall phlat on their phaces

In: NBL — Monday, 4 Apr, 2022

THE end of the road turned out to be in Cairns for South East Melbourne in the club's derailed quest for back-to-back NBL semi final appearances, the depleted Taipans unleashing a notorious 90-85 whack across the Phoenix's phalanx, fouling up their Final Four fantasy.

NBL Rd18: Tell tale round for the pack

In: NBL — Thursday, 31 Mar, 2022

IT'S not easy being green as both South East Melbourne and Tasmania JackJumpers will tell you, the two clubs hovering outside the NBL Final Four on 12-10 win-loss records, two matches in arrears of Illawarra Hawks and Perth Wildcats on 14-8. The Phoenix, with Xavier Munford in form, should make a move in Round 18.

B&B: Guy's 'boom times'

In: NBL, WNBL — Tuesday, 29 Mar, 2022

MELBOURNE Boomers have not only won the WNBL's regular season championship but also were the first to storm into the 2022 Grand Final, Brad Rosen and I grabbing coach Guy Molloy for this week's Brad&Boti podcast. Guy's gals will face Perth for the championship before he heads to New Zealand.

TOTW Rd17: Kings for a day and not jumpy

In: NBL — Monday, 28 Mar, 2022

FOR ONLY the second time this season, our erstwhile panel of B.O.T.I. judges were unable to split two teams in NBL Round 17 for the prestigious and much sought title of our Team of the Week, it last occurring in Round 7 when we couldn't split Adelaide and Brisbane.
